When to use it
Save the audio of a lecture recording
Drop the MP4, choose 128 kbps for speech and press "Extract audio". Spoken content stays clear and the MP3 is small enough to play on a phone.
Keep only the chorus of a music clip
Tick "Extract only part of it", enter a start and end time such as 1:05 and 1:40, or use "Use current position" while the video plays. Then extract at 192 kbps.
Raw audio for editing
Choose WAV under "Format" if you plan to edit the sound afterwards. WAV is uncompressed and large, but adds no extra lossy step.
How to use
- Drop a video file (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV) into the box or click to choose one.
- Pick MP3 quality (128, 192 or 320 kbps) or WAV. Optionally trim start and end times.
- Press Extract audio, listen to the result and download.
How it works
The audio track is decoded in your browser with the Web Audio API. For formats it cannot decode directly and for very long files, audio is captured in real time from a hidden video player. It is then encoded to MP3 by a JavaScript encoder or written as uncompressed WAV. The video file never leaves your device. You can trim the audio to extract only the portion you want before saving. How to verify. Also available as a free REST API for developers and AI agents (edge-processed, zero retention).

FAQ
What video formats are supported?
MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV all work if your browser can decode the audio inside. MP4 with AAC audio works in all modern browsers. Some codecs like AC3 or DTS are not supported.
Which bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps is plenty for most music. Use 128 kbps for voice recordings to save space, and 320 kbps for the best quality.
Can I extract just part of the audio?
Yes. Enable "Extract only part of it" and set start and end times to trim the audio before saving.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The audio is extracted inside your browser using JavaScript. Your file never leaves your device.
Can I paste a YouTube link?
No. This tool only works with video files on your device. Please respect copyright.
Can I paste a YouTube or TikTok link?
No. The tool works only with files saved on your device and has no link input.
What if the result is silent?
The page warns when the output is silent. The video may have no audio track, and in that case there is nothing to extract.
Why does a conversion take as long as the video?
For files the browser cannot read the fast way, the sound is captured while the video plays, so it takes as long as the selected part. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
