Nothing is worse than joining a video call only to hear "we can't hear you." A quick microphone test beforehand can save you from awkward troubleshooting during a meeting. This tool lets you check your mic right in the browser, with no software to install.
Test your microphone with Dagochim
- Open the Microphone & Camera Test tool.
- When your browser asks for microphone permission, click Allow.
- Speak into your microphone. A real-time volume meter will show whether sound is being picked up. If the bar moves, your mic is working.
- Optionally, record a short clip and play it back to check audio quality.
Microphone not detected? Try these fixes
1. Check browser permissions
Click the lock or info icon in the address bar and make sure microphone access is set to "Allow." If it says "Blocked," change it to "Allow" and refresh the page.
2. Check your OS sound settings
Windows: Go to Settings → System → Sound → Input. Make sure the correct microphone is selected and the volume isn't at zero. Speak and watch the test bar move.
Mac: Go to System Settings → Sound → Input. Select the correct microphone and check the input level.
3. Check privacy settings
Windows: Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. Make sure "Microphone access" and "Let apps access your microphone" are both turned on. Also enable "Let desktop apps access your microphone" for browser access.
Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. Make sure your browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.) is checked.
4. Hardware issues
- USB microphone: try a different USB port.
- 3.5mm jack: make sure it's plugged into the mic port (usually pink), not the headphone port.
- Bluetooth: check that the device is paired and connected.
- If no app can detect the mic, the microphone itself may be faulty.
Testing before Zoom, Discord, or Google Meet
Each app has its own audio settings where you can select a specific input device. Use the app's built-in audio test before your meeting starts. If the app uses "System Default," it follows whatever your OS has set as the default input device.
Privacy
All audio processing happens entirely in your browser. No audio data is sent to any server. When you close the page, everything is gone.
Frequently asked questions
Can I test my laptop's built-in microphone?
Yes. As long as it's selected as the input device in your OS sound settings, this tool will pick it up.
Does this work with AirPods or Bluetooth earbuds?
Yes. Make sure your AirPods are connected and set as the input device in your sound settings. Some Bluetooth devices switch between headset and media profiles, which can affect mic availability.
The volume bar barely moves even when I speak loudly
Try increasing the input volume in your OS sound settings. On Windows, you can also boost the mic level: Sound settings → choose your mic → Properties → Levels → Microphone Boost.
