Crop Image Free - Preset Ratios & Freeform
Crop images to any size or aspect ratio. Use preset ratios like 1:1 (square for profile pictures), 4:3 (standard), 16:9 (widescreen), or go freeform. Drag the crop box and handles to frame exactly the area you want. You can also resize, rotate, and flip at the same time. Save as JPG, PNG or WebP. Everything runs in your browser with no upload, no sign-up, no watermark. EXIF location data is removed automatically for privacy.

When to use it
Square crop for a profile picture
Drop a portrait photo, press "1:1" under "Crop ratio" and drag the box until the face is centred. Leave "File format" on JPG, press "Save image" and you get a square file ready for a chat or forum avatar.
Trim a screenshot to one window
For a long screenshot where you only need one panel, keep "Free" selected and drag the round handles around that panel. the result size shown under the preview tells you the exact pixel size before you save, and choosing PNG keeps text crisp.
Vertical crop for a story or reel
Choose a tall portrait ratio such as 9:16, move the box over the part of the picture you want to keep, then use the "Quick size (long side)" list to pick 1080px. The cropped image is saved at that size in one step.
How to use
- Drop an image into the box or click to choose one.
- Select a crop ratio (1:1, 4:3, 16:9, free) and drag the crop box to frame the area you want.
- Press Save image to download the cropped version.
How it works
Your image is displayed in a browser-based editor with an interactive crop box. Drag the box to position it and use the round handles to resize. When you save, only the cropped area is drawn onto an HTML Canvas and encoded in your chosen format. The entire process happens client-side, so your images are never sent to a server. Keyboard arrow keys work too, with Shift for larger moves. How to verify. Also available as a free REST API for developers and AI agents (edge-processed, zero retention).

FAQ
What crop ratios are available?
Free (any shape), 1:1 (square), 4:3 (standard), 16:9 (widescreen). You can also enter custom pixel dimensions for the crop area.
Can I crop to exact pixel dimensions?
Yes. Enter the crop area width and height in pixels. The crop box snaps to those dimensions.
Can I preview the cropped area before saving?
Yes. The crop box shows exactly what will be saved. Adjust it until you are happy.
Can I also resize after cropping?
Yes. After setting the crop, enter output dimensions to resize the cropped area to specific pixels or a percentage.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Images never leave your device, and saved images have location data removed.
Can I move the crop box with the keyboard?
Yes. Click the box, then use the arrow keys to nudge it. Hold Shift to move 10 px at a time, which helps when you need to line the edge up with something precisely.
Does cropping keep my location data?
No. Images are saved without EXIF data, so the GPS location and camera details from the original photo are not in the cropped file.
Can I crop a HEIC photo from an iPhone?
Not directly. If the browser cannot open the file you will see "Could not open this file". Convert the HEIC to JPG first, then crop the JPG here.
