Resize Image Free - Pixels or Percent

Resize images to exact pixel dimensions or scale them by percentage. Maintain the aspect ratio to prevent stretching. Perfect for preparing profile pictures, thumbnail images, email attachments, and social media posts that require specific dimensions. Rotate, flip, and change the format (JPG, PNG, WebP) at the same time. Everything runs in your browser with no upload, no sign-up and no watermark. EXIF location data is removed automatically.

When to use it

Shrink a photo for a forum post

Drop the image, stay on "By pixels", keep "Keep proportions" ticked and type 1200 into "Width (px)". Height follows automatically, and the result size under the preview confirms it before "Save image".

Halve a large picture

Switch "Resize" to "By percent" and set "Scale" to 50. A 4000 px wide photo becomes 2000 px wide, which is a quick way to cut file size.

Prepare a 1080 px post image

Use the "Quick size (long side)" list and choose the 1080px entry marked Instagram. Then choose JPG or WEBP in "File format" and set "Quality" before saving.

How to use

  1. Drop an image into the box or click to choose one.
  2. Enter the desired width and height in pixels, or use percentage scaling. Lock the aspect ratio to prevent distortion.
  3. Press Save image to download the resized version.

How it works

The image is loaded into your browser and displayed in a canvas-based editor. When you set dimensions and save, the image is redrawn at the new size using the browser's high-quality bicubic interpolation. The resized image is then encoded in your chosen format (JPG, PNG, or WebP). Aspect ratio can be locked so only one dimension needs to be entered. Everything runs client-side, so your images never leave your device. How to verify. Also available as a free REST API for developers and AI agents (edge-processed, zero retention).

FAQ

Can I resize to exact pixel dimensions?

Yes. Enter the exact width and height in pixels. Lock the aspect ratio to scale proportionally when you change one dimension.

Can I resize by percentage?

Yes. Switch to "By percent" mode and enter a scale percentage. Both width and height change proportionally.

Does resizing reduce quality?

Enlarging (upscaling) can look blurry. Reducing (downscaling) preserves quality well. Use the quality slider for lossy formats to control the size/quality trade-off.

Can I also crop and rotate?

Yes. This tool includes crop (with preset ratios), rotation, and flip features alongside resizing.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Images are never uploaded, and saved images have EXIF location data removed.

What happens if I make the image larger?

The tool allows it, but the label next to the size warns that enlarging can look blurry. Software cannot add detail that the original photo does not contain.

Can I turn off "Keep proportions"?

Yes. Untick it and type a width and a height separately. The picture will be stretched to fit, so use this only when you really want a distorted result.

Is there a size limit?

Very large images are reduced automatically to fit browser memory, and the tool tells you the final size in a message after saving.
