HEIC to PNG Converter Free - Lossless Quality

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to PNG with lossless quality. HEIC is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11, but many Windows apps and websites cannot open it. Converting to PNG preserves every detail without compression artifacts. This tool works in browsers that can decode HEIC (Safari on iPhone/Mac). For Chrome on Windows, set iPhone Settings > Camera > Formats to "Most Compatible." No upload, no sign-up, no watermark.

When to use it

Edit an iPhone photo in design software

Open the page in Safari on your Mac, drop the HEIC photo and set "Output format" to PNG. Because PNG is lossless, no extra compression is added before you bring the file into your editor.

Convert an iPhone screenshot-style capture

Photos with sharp text or UI, such as a picture of a whiteboard, stay crisp as PNG. Convert the batch, then use "Download all (ZIP)" to keep them together.

Cut the size of a large PNG result

If the PNG comes out huge, set "Max size (longest side)" to 1920 px (FHD) and press "Convert again with new settings". Aspect ratio is kept, and the picture is never enlarged.

How to use

  1. Drop HEIC photos into the box or click to choose them.
  2. Set the output format to PNG.
  3. Press Convert and download PNG files individually or all at once as a ZIP.

How it works

HEIC photos are decoded by your browser's native codec (available in Safari and some other browsers) and drawn onto an HTML Canvas. The canvas is then encoded as lossless PNG. Since PNG preserves every pixel exactly, the output maintains the highest possible quality. The entire process runs locally in your browser, so your photos never leave your device. EXIF rotation is applied automatically so photos stay upright. How to verify. Also available as a free REST API for developers and AI agents (edge-processed, zero retention).

FAQ

Which browsers support HEIC?

Safari on iPhone and Mac can decode HEIC natively. Chrome on Windows cannot decode HEIC. If your browser shows an error, convert HEIC photos on your iPhone (in Safari) or set iPhone Camera > Formats to "Most Compatible."

Why PNG instead of JPG?

PNG is lossless, so no detail is lost. JPG files are smaller but use lossy compression. Choose PNG when you need pixel-perfect quality, such as for editing or archiving.

Will the PNG be bigger than the HEIC?

Yes, usually much bigger. HEIC is highly compressed; PNG is lossless and produces larger files. If size matters more than quality, convert to JPG instead.

Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?

Yes. Drop or select multiple files. They are all converted and can be downloaded individually or as a ZIP.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Your photos never leave your device.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than my HEIC?

HEIC stores photos very efficiently, while PNG keeps every pixel without loss. A big jump in size is normal, and the tool shows a note about it. For smaller files choose JPG or WEBP instead.

Does the PNG have a transparent background?

Only if the picture already had one. A normal camera photo is fully opaque, so the PNG will be too.

Which browser should I use?

Safari on iPhone or Mac. The page cannot decode HEIC in browsers that lack native support, and it will tell you so rather than failing silently.
