Compress PNG Free - Reduce File Size Online
Reduce the file size of PNG images without losing transparency. PNG uses lossless compression, so re-encoding to PNG keeps every pixel intact. For significant size reduction, convert to WebP (smallest) or JPG (most compatible). Drop one or many PNG files, choose your settings, and download optimized versions. Batch processing is supported. Everything happens in your browser with no upload, no sign-up, no watermark.

When to use it
Shrink a big screenshot for a document
Drop the PNG and set "Max size (longest side)" to 1920 px (FHD). The picture is scaled down with its aspect ratio kept, and the "After" total shows the saving.
Keep transparency but cut the size
Leave "Output format" on PNG and add a "Max size" limit, or switch to WEBP, which also keeps transparent areas and is usually smaller. Check the result next to the original before replacing it.
Turn a photo-like PNG into a light file
If the PNG is really a photograph, choose JPG and "Quality" 80. Files often shrink by a large margin, though transparent areas become white.
How to use
- Drop PNG images into the box or click to choose them.
- Keep the format as PNG, or switch to WebP or JPG for smaller files. Adjust the quality slider.
- Press Convert and download compressed images individually or as a ZIP.
How it works
Each PNG image is decoded by your browser and drawn onto an HTML Canvas. If you keep the PNG format, the canvas is re-encoded as PNG. Since PNG is lossless, quality is preserved but file size reduction may be modest. For dramatic savings, switch to WebP (typically 30-50% smaller than PNG at similar quality) or JPG (smallest for photos, but loses transparency). The quality slider controls lossy formats only. Everything runs client-side in your browser. How to verify. Also available as a free REST API for developers and AI agents (edge-processed, zero retention).

FAQ
Does compressing PNG lose quality?
Re-encoding as PNG is lossless, so quality is identical. Converting to WebP or JPG uses lossy compression, which reduces quality slightly but produces much smaller files.
Will transparency be preserved?
Yes, when output is PNG or WebP. JPG does not support transparency; transparent areas become white.
Which format gives the smallest file?
WebP is usually smallest. JPG is a close second for photos. PNG is largest because it is lossless, but it preserves every pixel.
Can I compress many PNG files at once?
Yes. Drop or select multiple files. They are all processed and can be downloaded individually or as a ZIP.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Images never leave your device.
Does PNG output use fewer colors to get smaller?
No. PNG is written losslessly with all colors, and "Quality" does not apply to it. When PNG cannot shrink, the tool keeps your original and tells you it is already optimized.
Is transparency kept?
In PNG and WEBP output, yes. In JPG output, transparent areas are filled with white.
What is the best way to reduce a PNG a lot?
Reduce the pixel size with "Max size (longest side)", or change the format to WEBP or JPG. Those are the options this tool offers.
