PNG to JPG Converter Free - No Upload

Convert PNG images to JPG to dramatically reduce file size. JPG compression works best for photos and complex images, often shrinking files by 70-90% compared to PNG. Drop one or many PNG files, set your quality level, and download the converted JPGs. Everything runs in your browser, so your images are never uploaded. Perfect for preparing images for email, social media or web uploads where smaller files load faster.

When to use it

Photos exported as PNG by mistake

Drop the PNG photos, keep "Output format" on JPG and "Quality" at 80. The "% smaller" label on each row shows how much space you recovered.

Logo with a see-through background

Transparent areas turn white in JPG, as the note under the format buttons says. Convert only when a white background is fine; otherwise keep the PNG.

Meet a JPG-only form

Choose "Target size", set "Make each file under" to the form limit and convert. The tool tries lower quality, then smaller dimensions, to reach the number.

How to use

  1. Drop PNG images into the box or click to choose them.
  2. Set the output format to JPG and adjust quality (80% is a good default).
  3. Press Convert and download JPG files individually or all at once as a ZIP.

How it works

Each PNG image is decoded by your browser and drawn onto an HTML Canvas element. The canvas is then re-encoded as a JPEG at your chosen quality level. Transparent areas in the PNG become white in the JPG, since JPEG does not support transparency. The quality slider controls the compression trade-off: at 80%, most images look identical while the file shrinks significantly. Everything runs client-side using standard Web APIs. How to verify. Also available as a free REST API for developers and AI agents (edge-processed, zero retention).

FAQ

Will converting PNG to JPG lose quality?

JPG uses lossy compression, so some detail is lost. At 80% quality the difference is nearly invisible. For pixel-perfect quality, keep the PNG format.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPEG does not support transparency. Transparent areas in your PNG become white in the JPG output.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

Photos typically shrink by 70-90% compared to PNG. Screenshots with flat colors see less reduction because JPG handles gradients better than sharp edges.

Can I convert many PNG files at once?

Yes. Drop or select multiple files and they are all converted at your settings. Download them individually or as a ZIP.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser using HTML Canvas. Images never leave your device.

Will text and sharp lines look worse as JPG?

Slightly softer edges can appear around text and thin lines because JPG is lossy. Raise "Quality" to 90 or keep PNG for line art and screenshots with small text.

Can I choose a background color instead of white?

No. Transparent pixels are always filled with white. Fill the background in an editor first if you need another color.

Does the file name change?

The converted file is downloaded with a .jpg extension, and your original PNG stays untouched on your device.
