When to use it

Turn a resume or report into a PDF to send

Drop the .docx into the box and a preview appears. Check it, press “Save as PDF (Print)”, then choose PDF in the print window to save.

Convert a sensitive document without uploading it

The file is read inside your browser and never sent to a server, so a contract or personal paper stays on your device while you make the PDF.

Handle an old .doc file

Only .docx opens here. Re-save an older .doc as .docx in Word or Google Docs, then upload that.

How to use

  1. Drop a .docx file into the box or click to choose one.
  2. mammoth.js converts the document to HTML and shows a preview in the page.
  3. Click "Save as PDF (Print)" to open your browser's Print dialog.
  4. In the Print dialog, choose "Save as PDF" (Chrome) or "Microsoft Print to PDF" (Edge) and save.

Important: This tool renders your Word document in the browser and lets you save it as PDF using your browser's Print dialog. Complex layouts, headers/footers, and some formatting may differ from Microsoft Word's output. It works best with simple text documents, letters, and reports.

How it works

Your file is never uploaded to any server. mammoth.js (MIT license) reads the .docx file in your browser, extracts the text, tables, and images, and converts them to HTML. The browser renders that HTML on screen, and when you press "Save as PDF," the browser's built-in Print function creates a PDF from the rendered page. This is not a direct DOCX-to-PDF conversion engine — it uses the browser's print rendering, which means the output depends on your browser and system fonts. For confidential documents like contracts and resumes, this approach is safer than uploading to a server. You can verify by checking the Network tab in your browser's developer tools. How to verify. Also available as a free REST API for developers and AI agents (edge-processed, zero retention).

FAQ

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. mammoth.js converts the DOCX to HTML right in your browser, and the Print function creates the PDF. Your file is never sent to any server.

Will the layout match Microsoft Word exactly?

Not always. This tool renders the document in your browser, so complex layouts, headers/footers, and some formatting may differ from Microsoft Word's output. It works best with simple text documents.

Does it support .doc files?

No. Only .docx format is supported. Save older .doc files as .docx in Word or Google Docs first.

Are tables and images supported?

Yes. Basic tables and embedded images are displayed. However, complex table formatting, shapes, and SmartArt may not render perfectly.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. It works in mobile browsers. Look for the "Save as PDF" option in your browser's Print dialog.

How do I save as PDF in the print window?

“Save as PDF (Print)” opens your browser's print window. In Chrome pick “Save as PDF” as the destination, in Edge pick “Microsoft Print to PDF”, then save. Mobile browsers have a similar PDF option in their print screen.

Fonts and line breaks differ from what I see in Word.

The document is redrawn in your browser and printed from there, so the result depends on the browser and the fonts installed on your system. Headers, footers and complex formatting are the most likely to change. Check the preview if the look matters.

Can it convert an HWP file?

No, this tool is only for .docx. HWP files can be opened and saved as PDF with the HWP viewer and PDF converter.

Can I see the result before saving?

Yes. After you open the file, the "Preview" shows the document first. Check line breaks and tables there, then click "Save as PDF (Print)".

How do I choose the PDF file name?

"Save as PDF (Print)" opens your browser Print dialog. Choose "Save as PDF" as the destination and type the file name when you save. Paper size and margins can be changed in the same dialog.
