HWP is the document format of Hangul, the Korean word processor from Hancom. Apple Pages, Microsoft Word and Google Docs don't open it out of the box, which is why the file just shows a blank icon on a Mac or a phone. Because the HWP Viewer runs inside the browser, you don't need anything that is made only for Windows.
View it
- Open the HWP Viewer & HWP to PDF page in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
- Drop in the .hwp or .hwpx file, or tap to choose it from Files or Downloads.
- Flip through the page previews.
Keep a copy you can open anywhere
- Save as PDF makes a PDF of the pages as pictures. Choose "Normal" first and switch to "Sharp" if the text looks soft.
- If you need text you can select and search, press Print and choose "Save as PDF" as the destination in the print window.
- Copy text copies only the body text (it saves a TXT file if the clipboard isn't available), handy for pasting into a translator or an email.
Need to change something?
Open the file in the HWP Editor, fix the text, and save it again as HWP, HWPX or PDF. See how to edit an HWP file.
Limits to know
- Hangul-specific fonts may be replaced with web fonts, so line breaks can shift slightly.
- A password-protected file opens once you type the password. Files locked by a company security (DRM) program don't open.
- Read-only (distribution) files can be viewed but not saved. Ask the sender for a normal file or a PDF.
- Files must be smaller than 300 MB. The old HWP 3.x format can be viewed but may look a little different, and older formats can't be opened.
Your file is processed only in your browser and isn't stored. The engine and fallback fonts are downloaded from this site the first time.
FAQ
Will a big HWP file work on a phone?
It usually does, but phones have less memory. If the page says the device is out of memory, choose "Normal" quality or use a computer.
Can I turn HWP into Word (.docx)?
Not with this tool. It views HWP files and saves them as PDF, HWP or HWPX.
